Surely you thought I was one of those bloggers who posts for a while then drops off the face of the earth, and granted, I did for a few years. There have been some major changes in my life, but all for the better. Over the past two years I’ve been traveling to California for work quite a bit so time in my sewing room has been erratic. I’ve managed to finish a handful of projects, which I’ll start sharing in the next few posts.
First up: I bought a SUV and decided to make a padded cover for the back so my dog would be comfortable on trips, but mostly to protect the seats and mats from her claws, hair and any dirt she tracked in from trips to the dog park.
To get a template for the shape, I laid out newspaper in the backseat and arranged the pieces to fit around the curves, then taped it all together. The top layer is a pre-quilted fabric that matches her hair and the bottom layer is nonslip fabric with rubber dots. In between I sandwiched two small comforters I picked up at Big Lots for about $10 each. I added elastic straps at one end to slip over the headrests to protect the floorboard in the backseat.
I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out and other than wrangling all those layers through my sewing machine, it was easy!
This view almost makes binding enjoyable! Almost.
For WIP Wednesday, I have 6 blocks from the Summer Sampler Series quilt along to show:

Remember what I told you about our Labrador Dixie? I snapped this picture today as I was finishing my 6th block.
Rocky Road to Kansas
I finally finished quilting and binding the little quilt I made for my 2 year old chocolate Lab Dixie! She’s giving me her best “would you stop taking pictures so I can go back to sleep?” look.
Here’s a shot of the front:
The pieced back:
For the quilting I did wavy lines through the brown strips using brown thread, then wavy lines through the middle of the pieced sections with variegated orange thread, to bring in the orange binding.
I’m entering this quilt in the Pets on Quilts Show!
Dixie, my 2 1/2 year old chocolate Lab, loves
blankets anything that resembles a blanket. She’s often in my sewing room keeping me company and always manages to find some unfolded fabric or quilt top in process to nap on. Last night after shooing her off the backing for my Windowpane quilt, I decided to make a small quilt just for her.
I finished the top today and started preparing the binding, but haven’t gotten around to quilting it yet. I think she likes it already!
I’m linking up to these sites – check out what other people have been up to!
It may not look like it, but she’s helping me organize my scraps!
